An original of my Dadi and I while I was visiting India.

I love you.

You gave me so many great memories that I can revisit like

the way that your hand felt

so soft, wrinkled, beautiful, firm.

It left me wondering how could one thing be so many things at once?

Or the way your eyes lit up when I walked into a room.

you would pull me close and tell me story after story of your childhood.

Now, most of it I struggled to understand.

I sat there because your company was what drew me in.

Truly one of a kind in your essence and energy. No one could be you.

I know your life was hard, but you took the cards you were dealt and spun them into gold.

No choices, no voice.

But, somehow you found a way to use your voice to tell me how important it is for me to run free.

My favorite memories are of you walking out of your room hunched over in the early morning

sitting there with your tea and a piece of toast

dipping it and eating it

dipping it and eating it.

You moved throughout the day and wouldn’t sit down.
