I feel it bubble

first in my tummy

then it spreads

throughout my body.

I’m overtaken by excitement.

Do you remember

the first time you fell in love?

Do you remember

what it felt like to ride a bike for the first time?

Do you remember

what it felt like to have your first job?

Do you remember

what it felt like to hold hands with someone for the first time?

I wish we held onto that feeling

even when

we’ve done these things

for the hundredth time

because what makes life

feel so magical

is excitement

like things are happening for the first time.
