Remember that pimple you got right before you had to do the most important thing in the world? And how you felt as you focused on it more and more until the pimple grew larger than life and became your obsession. Now can you imagine if you saw the pimple, shrugged your shoulders, moved on, and took care of it in a healthy way? You would get so much time back and could spend it doing something you have control over. How is it that a simple pimple could cause someone to spiral and ruin their day? That’s how life seems to go for some of us until we learn better. Focus is a precious commodity because there’s always going to be a distraction around the corner and exercising the muscles that allow us to distinguish between what is worth our attention and what is not is a necessary tool. I had to make this a priority in my life because looking forward to and making the most out my day is important to me. This requires focus. Without it my day could go in a million different directions if I let it. That’s the weird part of being human. How do we even know where to put our focus? I say put it where you feel most alive and helps push you along to where you want to go.
