How You Can Design Your Own Sustainable Workout Practice
When I turned my relationship with working out from an on-and-off affair to a steadily and consistently fulfilling one, my life was forever changed.
“To me, if life boils down to one thing, it’s movement. To live is to keep moving.” Jerry Seinfeld
A movement practice that meant something to me helped me most when I was going through a period of lack of inspiration and connection with my life. My first goal was to make sure that my body was moving every single day for any amount of time, and I partnered with my best friend in my hometown to ensure that I held myself accountable for it. It not only made me feel better but it totally changed my perception of exercise.
It used to be that I hated working out because I did it to try to look like what the media told me my body should look like. This led to an unsustainable practice that went on and off for many years. Now I look forward to moving my body and I have tailored my practice to match my specific needs. How did I do it?
I asked myself three very important questions to guide my practice:
- How can I make this personal so that I feel connected to it?
- Why am I doing this?
