Making Waves

In my head there is a conversation

between the she

that was born

to a family of Punjabi immigrants

and the me

that was born to parents

in the land of the free.

She tells me to clench myself.

To dress different.

To watch what I say.

Or better, say nothing at all.

She tells me not to not make waves.

I tell her it is my duty to live.

and to live is to make waves.

XO,

Laveet
