Making Your Why the Focus of 2022
I encourage you to sit with your resolutions this year and go deeper than the statement you write down.
Oh, 2022 is around the corner. Personally, I think it’s wonderful that people take December 31st to think about what is and isn’t working for themselves and how they would like to move forward in the coming year. Do I wish we had regular check-ins with ourselves like that every month? Yes. 100% yes. One thing I’ve learned from my past of setting resolutions is the ones that lived on had a powerful why driving them.
Many a New Year was spent in serious reflection with my pen and paper, coming up with statements like “I will lose weight” or “I will do one face mask every week.” Here’s the thing I never stopped to ask myself why I wanted to lose weight or do one face mask every week. Crazy, right? For the first month of the year, I would jump right into my intense jog and strength training regimen. Then something wild would happen. I would quit.
Arguments like oh you don’t want to be out there in the cold or it takes too long to put on that mask blew my resolution out of the water and it was never to be seen again. I started to wonder why it was so easy for me to give up. Was it me? Did I have an inherent genetic issue that prevented me from keeping New Years promises to myself?
