My Herbal Tea Ritual
That first sip of herbal tea in my comfortable and warm room at night feels like a moment of pure bliss.
Do you remember being an infant? Me neither. I do remember my toddler years and the bedtime routine my mom had in place for me. At 28 I am realizing how critical that wisdom was for my well-being as an adult and it seems like the rest of the world is starting to understand this too.
When I transitioned out of living at home with my parents and went to college in Los Angeles, I completely ditched the idea of a sleep ritual. No chance! There were too many parties to go to, drinks to drink, mid terms to cram for, and late night chats to have with my girls. After I graduated and moved to the East Coast for work, I tried to keep the same energy, but I quickly realized I had to change something if I wanted to wake up feeling energized and refreshed. Isn’t that what we all want on a deeper level?
In the process of learning sustainable lifestyle practices to show up for myself and make the most of my day, I realized everything would quickly go awry unless I got enough sleep. The CDC notes that one third of Americans don’t get enough sleep on a regular basis. (1) The impact of this is steep and symptoms can range from irritability to a high blood pressure. (2) I don’t know about you, but I’m good on developing either of those.
