I read once that we make about 35,000 choices a day. Holy shit. Who even counts their choices and comes up with such a mind boggling number? There are so many conversations I could have around the art of choosing. One of the more interesting ones for me is how do we learn how to choose what is right for us? After mulling over it for a bit I came to the conclusion that the answer is in the word learn. Learning implies we are open to a trial and error process and respect all parts of it including our mistakes. How many of you want to throw yourself into the fire of internal agony because of a mistake you made? You think you’ll never get through that choice and for some reason it ends up in your “I won’t recover box” instead of your “Let me learn the lesson box”. I’ve learned the art of choosing is so deeply intertwined in our faltering and making mistakes that you can’t have one without the other. They go together like sadness and happiness or calm and chaos. I’d like to see a shift where we embrace the process of learning how to make choices for our wellness and health more than being worried about getting it “right” all of the time.
