The Price I Pay For Running My World

One of the most intimidating people is an independent and free woman who doesn’t need anyone to think for her.

Original photograph of the author.

These are my late night thoughts on the price you pay as a woman for paving your own path.

My hands wrap around

the cold surface

of my cell phone.

I pick it up

a strong desire pulling inside of me

telling me to call you.

It’s been six months

since I last heard your voice

the low tone

the soft hello

the ebbs and flows.

And I wonder should I call you?

How have you lived so many months

without picking up the phone?

Don’t you want to talk to me

hear my voice

embrace me?

Or have you forgotten.

My independence and freedom

shouldn’t be a threat to you.

I shudder.

The reality is

as I put down the phone

feeling the weight of it gone

your silence

tells me everything I need to know.

XO,

Laveet
